I was reading in Luke the genealogy of Jesus. Luke’s version is unique and cool. He goes backwards from Joseph, Jesus’ father, all the way to Adam! KIND OF like this: “names I can’t pronounce… David… more names I can’t pronounce… Jacob, Issac, Abraham, Noah, Enosh, Seth….then there was Adam, the son of God.” BOOM. Jesus relates to all of mankind.
It made me think about my own genealogy. I am sitting here reading this ancient text written by Luke who desperately wanted to proclaim and affirm the good news of Jesus. Men and women from LONG ago read this exact same account, and their lives started to change radically. Through the preaching of the Gospel I’m holding in my hands right now, faith has reached all the way to me. It would be neat if I could trace back the line of faith through my family and the world… while going back in time, at some point my personal family’s faith would probably end, meaning someone must have introduced the Gospel into my family lineage… who even knows! But somehow, through connecting all the way back to the apostles and Gospel authors, a love for Jesus and his ways has reached me. That is extremely awesome. So now I sit here reading one of the same written Gospels that started it all. Maybe, I’m a nerd. Or maybe that is cool.
