The Great Love of God
This picture for some reason means a lot to me. As soon as I saw Mr. Sharma get on his knees and embrace these two girls, I knew I had to quickly get my camera and take a picture.
Kumkum and Ashu arrived a couple days ago here at Asha Mission. These two sisters come from Bihar, the poorest part of India. The two girls are not orphans. Their parents brought them. The parents felt like they had no other choice because they do not have the means to take care of them. Kumkum and Ashu have 7 other siblings. When they arrived, they were very dirty. You could tell they hadn’t bathed in awhile. Their hair was thick and matted. Dirty hands and feet. Runny noses.
After the parents sadly left the two girls, Mrs. Sharma fed them some rice and curry. She then bathed them and put oil in their hair. She instructed the other children to look through their own clothes and find ones that Ashu and Kumkum could have. Shortly, Mr. Sharma arrived back from running a few errrands. When he saw that the two new children had arrived and were here to stay, he got down on his knees called Kumkum and Ashu to him, laughed and talked to them kindly, and held them his arms like they were his own. That’s the moment I snapped this photo. I saw that moment and realized it was a divine moment.
The love of the Sharmas never leads me to praise them. It sends me directly to the great love of God. The Sharmas are so evidently connected to the well God’s love. It is obviously flowing through them. They have two children of their own here who they love and care for, but through the power and love of God, they nurture and care for 33 others. Mr. Sharma so joyfully welcomed two more. I love this picture because to me it has written all over it the GREAT Love of God.
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1
